The Gulf is our primary market, home to roughly half of U.S. refining capacity, the inland barge network, offshore oil and gas, and the heart of Jones Act commerce.For international operations, we place with carriers and clubs that provide worldwide hull and P&I coverage, and we handle cargo insurance for shipments moving to and from the United States. How does your bunker desk work?

We take no title to the fuel, hold no inventory, and extend no credit, which means we introduce no counterparty credit risk into your supply chain and carry no position that could color the advice we give you. You contract directly with the supplier; we arrange and coordinate the stem.In practice that means we bring you competitive offers across our supplier panel, help structure terms that fit your operation and trading pattern, and stay involved through stem confirmation and delivery rather than stepping away once an offer is passed. Because the same firm handles your insurance and claims, we also understand the operational and coverage context around your fuel, from the vessel and its trade to the exposures that sit alongside a bunkering operation. Our panel is anchored in the U.S. Gulf and expanding across the ports our clients call.

Do I have to use all four of your services?

No. Each service stands on its own, and most clients start with one, usually insurance. The value of the structure is not a bundle you are asked to buy into; it is that when a second need arises, a claim, a fuel stem, a sanctions question, a contract that needs review, you are working with a firm that already knows your vessels, your trade, and your exposures. That context is normally lost when each need goes to a different specialist who has to be briefed from scratch. Here it carries across, which tends to show up as faster, better-informed handling when something actually happens.

How do you get paid?

For insurance placements, we're paid a standard commission built into the policy. There is no separate fee to have us broker your coverage.Bunker brokering works the same way. We're paid a commission by the supplier, not through a markup added to your stem. Because we take no position in the fuel and extend no credit, our interest is in the strength of the counterparty and the terms, not in moving any particular barrel.For advisory work such as claims advocacy, contract review, or compliance consulting, we agree the basis with you before we begin, whether a fee for a defined matter or an ongoing arrangement. You'll always know what we're charging before any engagement starts.

When should I bring you in on a claim?

As early as possible. Many marine claims carry strict time bars and notice requirements, and the actions taken in the first days after a loss often shape what can be recovered. Even if you are not sure whether a matter will become a formal claim, an early conversation lets us protect your position, preserve evidence and deadlines, and advocate for you from the start rather than after options have narrowed.

Are you an insurance company or an underwriter?

No, and the distinction matters to how we work for you. Nord Young is an independent broker and advisor. We do not underwrite, hold reserves, or pay claims, and on the energy side we do not trade fuel or take positions. That independence is deliberate. Because we are not tied to any single carrier, we have no incentive to steer you toward a particular market. We sit on your side of the placement, market your risk to the carriers and clubs best suited to it, and when a claim comes we advocate for you without the conflict a risk-bearing party would have.
